Whew! Done at last...

Thank goodness! I finished it on time. First there was the petticoat/pantaloons, hat, and purse:

And then there was the butterfly wings. I wanted her to be a butterfly fairy bed doll, but wasn't sure how to go about the wings. I ended up taking floral wire, forming it into the shape I wanted, and then covering the jagged edges with floral tape. Then I single crochet along the outside of the wire ending up with what basically looked like this:

You can see on the inside frame how I did some rudimentary tatting to form a net-like effect. This is the finished front side of the wings.

I then took a pin-back and glued it to the wrong side of the wings with some E6000 glue. This makes it removable when the dress has to be washed. Also I glued the shoes on so that a 6 year-old will find it a little harder to lose. ;) This is the backside of the pin.

Wing Back

I haven't taken a picture yet with the wings pinned on, but I think I'll add that tomorrow. I would have posted this sooner, but my sciatica has been killing me and I wasn't up to the excitement of taking pictures. Sorry!

Anyway here are some pictures of the final product:

I also had to add the faux butterflies made with ribbons and roses:

Thank goodness I made my Christmas deadline!

Bed doll WIP

I'm currently working on a bed doll for my "niece", Alyssa. Her room is purple with a butterfly theme, so I thought I'd work with that idea. So far the basic dress is finished, (along with the hat and purse), but I'm working on the petticoat-pantaloons now. Once that's done, I'm adding  butterflies made from ribbons and roses, and I'm crafting wings out of floral wire that I'm going to crochet a glittery mesh on. I'll keep you posted on my progress. It's based on a 20 year-old pattern by FibreArts named "Constance." Here's what I've got so far. The color is actually closer to the second picture. (I've really gotta get a better camera. ;)    )

Finished!

Well, I finished my knitting bag. It's made from Caron One Pounder acrylic. The handles are dowels that I crocheted and then glued on with E-6000 (great stuff!) I then glued rhinestones onto the tips. I wanted to line it, so I recycled an old velour top. I cut it to size, and then sewed it in. It works great!
